St Leonards Cricket in the Fast Lane

01 September 2024

St Leonards Cricket Club and aspiring local cricketers can look forward to putting more runs on the board, thanks to the completion of the St Leonards Lake Reserve Cricket Training Facility, backed by the Allan Labor Government.

Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant today joined the City of Greater Geelong Council and club members at the popular ground to officially open the new training facility, made possible by $100,000 from the Community Cricket Program.

The new three-wicket facility at the reserve replaces the previous training nets which were run down and falling short when it came to hosting practice in a safe environment.

It’s a large space with a synthetic surface that’s ideal for cricket training and is also publicly accessible providing the perfect place for locals to enjoy a hit of cricket, further reinforcing the reserve as a sport and recreation hub.

The government has invested more than $2.3 billion in community sport and active recreation infrastructure over the past decade.

The Victorian Budget 2024/25 is also investing over $23 million to continue delivery of community sports infrastructure and programs to increase participation opportunities and improve accessibility.

Investments like these are all about supporting the development of strong, active and healthy communities through high quality, accessible, well-designed local infrastructure.

Alison Marchant MP acknowledged the City of Greater Geelong for its $350,000 contribution and delivery of the project.
