The Allan and Albanese Labor Governments are making it safer for Victorians travelling through Wallington and Moolap by investing in road safety upgrades along the Bellarine Highway.
The $8.58 million safety upgrade will see crews install road safety barriers across the Wallington and Moolap sections of the highway, including barriers the middle of the road between Leopold and Moolap.
The upgrade will also remove right turn traffic from Swan Bay Road in Wallington, allowing drivers to safely stage their crossing of the Bellarine Highway in separate movements, as well as allowing for more than one vehicle to queue in the median space at a time.
This stretch of road caters to more than 35,000 commuters, tourists and local drivers each day and serves as a key link between the Bellarine Peninsula and the Geelong and Melbourne areas.
Over the past five years, there have been 24 recorded crashes on these sections of the highway with one crash resulting in a Victorian losing their life last year.
The project is jointly funded through this year’s $120 million Road Safety Program which is delivering road safety upgrades across 24 sites across Victoria.
All projects in the program provide valuable road safety data that will help shape future policy and road safety for everyone using the nation’s roads.
