The Allan Labor Government is asking all Victorians to have their say about the kinds of cities, suburbs, towns and regions they want to live in, and the kind of Victoria we want to build for future generations.
As part of the landmark Housing Statement, the Labor Government has participated in community engagement right across the state to develop a long-term vision for Victoria for the next 30 years.
A community event was held at Portarlington Football Club on Thursday 6th of June where local residents were invited to tell Department of Planning and Transport representatives about their future vision for our state.
This session was one of 60 pop-up events planned throughout metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria over the coming months, reaching all corners of the state. There are a range of resources online which provide further opportunities to get involved.
Engagement will reach all Victorians – including young people, culturally and linguistically diverse, people living with a disability, those at risk of homelessness, renters, and homeowners.
Engagement with local councils, industry, communities as well as Traditional Owners and the wider First Peoples Community has also been undertaken this year.
All input will inform our blueprint to guide how Victoria grows and develops as a state. It follows stakeholder consultation with more than 200 industry and council participants starting in November 2023.
By 2050, Victoria’s population is expected to exceed 10 million, with more than 8 million people calling Melbourne home.
The Housing Statement provides the steps to build 800,000 homes in the next decade, with the development of a new plan for Victoria a key initiative to help deliver more homes near transport, jobs and essential services in vibrant, liveable, and sustainable cities, suburbs and towns.
