Better Roads Blitz Rolls Out Across Geelong Region

23 September 2025

The Labor Government is fixing the roads that matter most to the Geelong region.

From today, the massive Better Roads Blitz will sweep across the state, rebuilding, repairing and resurfacing roads across every corner of the state.

Backed by a record $976 million investment, crews will be hard at work delivering hundreds of major maintenance projects on Victoria’s roads – with 70 per cent of the funding dedicated to repairing regional roads.

That includes major works set to be delivered on the Princes Highway West, the Surfcoast Highway, the Midland Highway and the Bellarine Highway.

Whether you're using them to get to work or school or they're transporting the food that ends up in your fridge, our roads play a huge role in the life of every single Victorian.

That's why we're making sure that the roads we all rely on most are smoother and more reliable.

Between now and mid-2026, hundreds of roads across the state will undergo works as part of our major repair blitz.

This year's program will target high-traffic areas and busy freight routes, helping to get millions of people and hundreds of thousands of tonnes of freight to and from their destination as smoothly and as safely as possible.

Across regional Victoria – which is home to more than 19,000 kilometres of Victoria’s 23,000-kilometre arterial road network – roads set to be targeted include the Western Highway, Princes Highway East, Princes Highway West, Hume Highway and Calder Highway.

In metropolitan areas, roads that will undergo repairs include the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, Leakes Road, Normanby Road, the Warburton Highway and Boronia Road.

As well as repairing some of our busiest roads, crews will also mow, slash and spray tens of thousands of kilometres of roadsides, inspect and repair thousands of bridges and other structures.

They’ll also fix hundreds of sets of traffic lights and electronic signs, clean hundreds of pieces of offensive and unsightly graffiti and deliver other works as needed.
