The Allan Labor Government is delivering more opportunities to explore the picturesque Bellarine coastline, thanks to a new shared walking and cycling path at Beacon Point Reserve.
Minister for Regional Development Gayle Tierney today visited Clifton Springs alongside local MP Alison Marchant to officially open the trail, which is backed by a $284,000 Labor government investment.
The new trail is the first of its kind to be built at Beacon Point Reserve, which previously had no formal walking tracks or paths. It will open up the Reserve for walkers, cyclists and sightseers, offering spectacular views across Corio Bay and boosting visitation opportunities for the region.
Around 800 metres of shared trail has been built from the existing beach access point along the foreshore. It’s complemented by new signage and trail information, accessible park furniture and revegetation of native plant species.
The project has transformed Beacon Point Reserve, which was previously underused due to its lack of formal pathways and limited access points.
Works on the shared trail, which were funded and delivered in partnership with City of Greater Geelong, employed local sub-contractors.
Elsewhere on the Bellarine Peninsula, we’ve invested $124,000 to upgrade the St Leonards Memorial Hall, provided $21,000 for works at the Portarlington Bayside Miniature Railway and $50,000 for refurbishments to the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested a record $45 billion in projects and programs to support regional and rural Victorian cities and towns to be even better places to live, work, stay and play.
These investments into Regional Victoria mean more people have jobs close to home, more communities have the infrastructure they need to thrive, and more visitors can experience what our regions offer.
